Your ALCO Process – Are You Ready For More Scrutiny?

With the worst of the banking crisis past, regulators are now turning their attention to issues involving the ALCO Process. On January 6th, federal regulators issued a joint advisory (Advisory on Interest Rate Risk Management) which discussed their view that many community bankers may be taking on significant interest rate risk during this difficult time. Many bankers have turned to the absolute safety of GNMA mortgage-backed securities in order to shore up their Total Risk Based Capital Ratio and this could lead to significant exposure in a rising rate environment.
